Biografía
"El Matusalén de las pesas", nombre con el que cariñosamente le conocen los aficionados, ganó su primer título mundial de culturismo hace más de 25 años. Nativo de las Indias Occidentales y con una edad de más de 55 años, Beckles desafía al tiempo demostrando con su excelente calidad muscular, sus estriaciones inusitadas y el increíble relieve de sus brazos que la práctica del culturismo puede detener todo signo de envejecimiento hasta unos límites insospechados.
Albert se trasladó a vivir a Inglaterra a mediados de los años cincuenta y empezó a competir en torneos locales. Su dilatada carrera incluye casi media docena de victorias mundiales antes de enrolarse en las filas de la IFBB.
Al cumplir los 50 años, en vez de pensar en jubilarse, decidió dedicar su vida a la competición profesional con la intención de, según él, hacer lo que le gusta y ganar algún dinero. Desde entonces ha participado en todos los campeonatos Olympia y en los Grand Prix profesionales, quedando siempre entre los finalistas y nunca más abajo del puesto quinto.
A su edad continúa teniendo la ilusión de obtener la corona del Olympia para, después, pasarse otros tres o cuatro años en la competición profesional, retirarse hacia los sesenta y abrir un gimnasio en Inglaterra o en Estados Unidos con la intención de enseñar los secretos de sus técnicas a los futuros campeones.
La avanzada edad de Albert Beckles, su simpatía y su fabulosa capacidad de trabajo hacen de él uno de los culturistas más populares de todos los tiempos.
